Project aims

To create and improve a number of habitat areas on the farm, including hedgerows, small wooded areas, a hay meadow, and two ponds. In doing so it will create a mosaic of connected habitats for wildlife to thrive.

We would like to:

  • Create 530m (2650 plants) of new hedgerows.
  • Four small wooded areas (1.2 hectares in total) to include 610 broadleaf trees and 60 fruit trees.
  • Construction of 2 ponds.
  • Create a hay meadow (2.5 hectares).

Outcomes

  • A greater number of trees to help store rainwater, reduce soil erosion and run off from fields.
  • Creating habitats for species in decline, with fruit trees providing a food source for insects.
  • Making use of unproductive areas of the farm.
  • Creating shelter for not just wildlife but livestock as well.
  • It will provide a wildlife corridor and link existing habitats.

Impact

Increased biodiversity
